Character Roles

 

1. Princess 

One day your prince will come... Or maybe you're going after him! Or maybe you've been cursed/captured/whatever and are in need of rescue! Those towers won't climb themselves, and those kisses that awaken you from a century of slumber aren't exactly cheap.

 

2. Prince Charming/Heroic Knight 

You're handsome (hopefully). You're charming (you think). You have a great outfit (this is debatable). Regardless, it's time to go find and rescue your one true love! ... Er, wherever she or he might be.

 

3. Villian 

Man, those two up there sure are annoying, aren't they? Maybe it's time to do some kidnapping, curse some royalty, plague a kingdom, or whatever other nefarious deed you might be thinking of. In any case, the truly important thing is to make sure your cape and collar are appropriately intimidating and black.

 

4 . Red Riding Hood 

... Or whichever other cute little girl that roams the woods in her free time that you can think of. You're cute, you have a pretty outfit, and there's something growling in the bushes but whatever it is, it can't be too dangerous, can it?

 

5 . Wolf 

You're a wolf. Or a bear. Or some other animal. Or some random person with animal ears and a tail. Maybe you're evil, maybe you're just misunderstood, but you still can't stand those annoying people that keep wandering around your forest. Maybe they're even in your house, eating your food! The nerve! Or maybe they just look delicious, who knows.

 

6 . Dragon 

You're a fucking dragon. Maybe you've kidnapped a snack, maybe someone came to hunt you down, maybe some hobbit is stealing your treasure, maybe you're just chilling. You're a dragon.

 

7 . Witch 

Bring out the hat and broomstick, it's time to get the cauldron bubbling. Good, misunderstood, evil, who knows what you are. Except for a witch. You're definitely a witch. Try to avoid shoving small children into your oven and you should be fine.

 

8 . Cheery Animal Sidekick 

Cheep cheep! Boy that princess sure is pretty, huh? You should sing with her and do her chores for her and obey her slavishly- wait... Well, whatever you're doing, you're cute and small and mildly annoying.

 

9 . Cursed Prince 

Life was just perfect for you, until you got on the wrong side of that witch/wizard/cheery animal sidekick pushed just too far. Now you're cursed! Into a beast? Into a frog? Maybe you have really bad acne now? It could be anything (seriously, anything you can think of) but luckily, the cure is simple. Find your one true love and get that magical first kiss.

 

10. Fairy Godmother 

When your princess is in need, she's only got one person to turn to. Her fairy godmother. It's your job to advise her, help get her out of any scrapes she happens to be in, or maybe you got her in the mess to begin with.

 

11. Random Extra 

Wow, all those other guys sure are weird, aren't they? You'll just get back to work. Even with all this nonsense going on, life continues.

[If Nico had been told when he was younger that he'd miss Persephone as his step-mother, then he probably would've laughed. As it stands, he vastly prefers Persephone over Electra for many reasons. All of those reasons are why he left his home in the first place. Really, there's nothing left for him. His mother died when he was eleven, then his sister a week later. His first step-mother, Persephone, was assassinated when he was fourteen, and his father joined her a year after his re-marriage with Electra when he was fifteen. Nico feels he should get a medal for trying to deal with her until his sixteenth birthday. By that time, she had taken an unhealthy liking to him, and with his half-sister's help, managed to get away.

Mostly, he'd left with very little. All he had were a set of fine clothes as black as night, another silver as the moon, and the last as deep a blue as twilight. Well, they were the only things that had the most value. The other thing Nico left home with was the skin of a cat, used to disguise himself while in the other country. He'd gladly given up his title and everything he'd known, and had been lucky to gain a position as a servant in some lord's estate. Even luckier, he'd managed to find that they were kindly rather than abusive. Not that Nico would've complained, as he knew very well that he would've suffered far worse had he stayed home.

This doesn't make life any less lonelier, of course. Even Nico admits that much. The only people he sees most of the time are other servants, and if someone higher up the social ladder does cross his path, he's usually never noticed. Although, it helps that the donkey skin he always wears is enchanted to make him appear that way. It's almost sad that it's become something of a security blanket for the former noble.

Thus, when the owners of the estate say that they're going to hold a ball and that the servants are welcome to participate, Nico practically leaps at the chance to get into something that isn't donkey. Besides, it'll be even more of a protection, since nobody will ever guess that the guy wearing the donkey skin is the same person attending the ball. It's flawless. Nico even contents himself with the thought that he doesn't really have to talk to anyone, just listen and enjoy a night of not being a servant.

The day of the ball finds Nico in his twilight blue clothes. He threads his way through the fringes of the party-goers, reveling in the luxury of a free night. Nobody telling him to fetch something or other, or to clean up someone else's mess. He can just be himself.]

how you're supposed to roll/role is kind of confusing, so I rolled 21 and got... Little Mermaid

[By the root and fucking branch this sucks. Not only, not only, has she run into a curse that means she gets to spend more time in the water as half a fish (fuck), but she can't use her voice either? This wasn't even the nice kind of transformation, instead designed to incapacitate her with panic and pain. No way to form legs again, trapped in the water, and one other feature: The original Little Mermaid, she recalls from the tales she grew up with, felt like she was walking on knives everywhere she went.

So Toby gets to feel like she's swimming through fire.

And she can't even swear about it.

When she gets herself out of this someone is going to die. One the other hand, that means breaking the curse first. Somehow.]

Prompt 4: Beauty (Sassy) and the Beast

[Walt can list a few things that are not his fault in this situation. Number one is that it's not his fault for getting turned into a half-jackal, half-human thing. That is entirely Set's fault and they've both exchanged Words over the matter on many occasions. Number two is that he also isn't at fault for the servants being cursed along with him. They are now in the forms of inanimate objects, but they're entirely animate and can talk and he has no idea how the hell this magic even works. Still, he's grateful that there are people he can talk to without worrying about a headache later.

Number Three, and this deserves the capital letters, is that it's not his fault that Sadie Kane arrived at the manor because she got lost in the woods. That Set thinks it's a "good idea" to keep her locked up until she falls in love with his cursed son and breaks the spell is pretty obviously the worst idea he's ever had. Sadie Kane simply isn't a woman to be contained, and Walt's known that since he first laid eyes on her.

He will admit that it is his fault for trying to make Sadie's stay comfortable while plotting her escape, since Set has made it clear that he's not letting her go anytime soon. It's...also his fault for finding himself head-over-heels (paws?) for her. Yeah. Way to go, Walt Stone. Brilliant thinking.

[Once upon a time, there was a crown prince who had no interest in marriage.

This was not to say that he had no interest in the fate of the kingdom, despite the fact that he could not take the throne without a queen. Quite the contrary, he had great dreams of making the kingdom more just, and feared for its fate under other noble families thanks in part to his turbulent past. He was the son not of the wicked king who had recently been executed for his crimes, but the noble king before that. The prince's father had died under disturbing circumstances that the prince had once feared were his fault, but were actually the wicked king's.

Once the dust settled, a regent began overseeing the kingdom thanks to the crown prince's unwed state, albeit one with little ambition of his own who respected the word of the prince. Many suitors came to see the prince, but he simply turned them all away... until the day when the most hideous and pointlessly talkative suitor of all came and would not take no for an answer. As it turned out, she was a witch, easily capable of kidnapping the prince.

When the prince awoke, he found himself bound to a chair within the witch's hut, deep in the woods. While getting his bearings, he happened to catch sight of a book on a nearby table, and with effort, he managed to move himself, chair and all, to its side. As it turned out, it was a book of potion recipes -- one that was open to the recipe for a love potion. In his horror, he let out a great cry:]
